The Sky is Falling!

It's been a stormy spring, which I don't mind, except for two things. One, I don't like walking in the wet grass. Two, my sister, Dakota, is a freak.

She is afraid of the thunder and afraid when they break in to the TV shows to tell us there is a storm. She feels the need to pant really loudly and get to higher ground. She totally ignores the moms when they tell her to get down. Maybe this is an ancient retreiver instinct. I'm not really sure, but it does disturb my napping.

Call me crazy, but at her age, she should be used to thunderstorms. Hey Dakota, it's spring in Texas. We have thunderstorms. They come through, make loud noises, dump a little rain and maybe some hail, and blow out. We live inside - we're not getting rained or hailed on. We're not getting struck by lightning. Take a nap, for goodness' sake!

I guess I can't really blame Dakota. The professional weatherpeople seem to have the same problem, and they have college degrees. Hey weatherpeople, it's spring in Texas. We know there will be thunderstorms. Don't break into our show to tell us it's sprinkling in Podunktown. Nobody cares. We've never been to Podunktown. We've never even heard of it. Go play with your weathermap and get off my TV screen!

We certainly don't need a full hour and a half of hand-wringing and chit-chat about how much damage the hail did in Loserville eighteen years ago. We're trying to watch Survivor. Stick a runner at the bottom of the screen, and we'll all run into the closet when the sirens go off.

I'm going to nap now. Have a great weekend.

I don't mind thunderstorms. Flash doesn't like them but isn't as weird as Dakota. Our stupid cat hides behind the toilet during a thunderstorm.

I pant very bad during storms too, but I just try to hide in the bathroom.

Maybe she knows something we don't. I would listen to Dakota.

But I too get scared at everything...so I am not one to bark at other glass houses.

Maybe she should go to that place in Idaho that Grammie is always talking about. The place that is going to still be there when Cailfornia falls into the ocean. Maybe Dakota is an alien. That is the answer. She knows more than all of us.

Go easy on Dakota. Thunderstorms are scary even when you are safe in a house.
