Please Help Berkley and Brighton!
On Friday, June 12th, LBR received a call that three four month old puppies had been surrendered to a local shelter. Since a shelter is no place for a puppy so young, due to the risk of exposure to disease, LBR immediately sent a volunteer to pick them up. One male puppy was being adopted when our volunteer arrived, but she happily left with one male and one female puppy. They were dubbed Berkley and Brighton.
The next day, Berkley broke with Parvovirus. Brighton was immediately sent to the clinic to be tested. She was also positive, and started treatment immediately. Sadly, Berkley gave up his fight days later. Brighton, however, got to come home to his foster parents on Sunday, June 20.
In the not so distant past, Parvo would be a death sentence, but today, 85% of puppies survive the virus with immediate veterinary care. But it's a long and expensive recovery, involving at least a week's worth of hospitalization and medication.
