Update on Oliver

Some of you will remember Oliver. Some of you even sent in some money to help pay for Oliver's surgery. He appreciates it a lot, and wants me to give you an update.

Oliver had an exploratory surgery for a possible mass on his spleen. To everyone's great relief, there was no mass or tumor. During the surgery, Oliver was neutered. Everything appeared to be fine and Oliver went home with his foster mom to recuperate. (with a huge lampshade around his head to prevent him from licking his wounds, which he found extremely undignified).

A few nights later, Oliver woke up in a pool of blood, with his scrotal sack swollen and the stiches where he was neutered opening up. He was rushed to the emergency clinic where the bleeding was stopped and the incision resutured. For unknown reasons, his scrotum continued to swell. He was taken back to surgery and a drain was placed to prevent further swelling. This did not help, and he was taken back to surgery for a third time to remove the entire scrotum. Oliver received a blood transfusion, IV antibiotics, a morphine drip for pain, and steroids to prevent further swelling.

Oliver's condition is now improving, but he still has a long road to recovery. His medical bills are more than we ever expected. Through it all, his boxer spirit shined through. His little nub still wiggled through the pain.

Oliver is truly an exceptional dog, gentle, smart, and loving. Thank you Legacy Boxer Rescue and everyone who contributed to help Oliver. This is a life worth saving.

Poor Oliver. All that bad luck. At least he is with people who will take care of him -- so not all of his luck is bad. We are sending our healing dachsie thoughts to him. Chani's and Opy's surgeries came out okay with all of the worldwide doggie support. Oliver will be okay too.
